August: Scout Summer Camp in Brittany - Northern France.
1978
January: Robert Plumley and Bob Trigg take over running of
Scout Troop.
July: 1st Prize in Coggeshall Carnival with Float entitled
"Coggeshall Casualty Department".
August: Joint Cub and Scout Summer Camp at Norwich. Joint

Finishing touches to H.Q. -plastering, painting, tiles laid
etc.
April: Headquarters Management Committee formed.
May: Official opening of Scout and Guide Headquarters with
Pate and Wine evening in H.Q. Brecon Beacons Cub Pack joint
first in Braintree District Sports Day.
August: Scout Summer Camp in Brecon Beacons - pony trekking,
canoeing etc.
1976
Main building of H.Q. constructed of blocks and roof fitted.
August: Scout Summer Camp at 8th Essex International Jamboree
1975
Sewer trenches filled - connection to main sewer fitted - concrete
base laid -entrance to site completed - building blocks delivered.
August: Scout Summer Camp at Glasbury: Brecon Beacons: Pony-trekking,
canoeing and hill walking. Second Cub Pack started by Anne Evans.
Packs named Brecon Beacons and Black Mountain.
1974
January: waste Paper Collection Scheme started. Collection on a
street-by-street basis on the first Saturday in each month
covering most of Coggeshall. Continued for 12 years and was
the major contributor to funds for building and subsequently
maintaining the Scout & Guide Headquarters.
April to September: Sponsored Potato Grow. June: Sale of several
hundred sponsored blocks for new H.Q. Cub Scouts Runners-up in
District Football Tournament.
August: Scout Summer Camp at Buckmore Park. Most of year spent
laying out sewer pipes and connections for H.Q. and excavating
base. Because of terms of Planning Permission decision made not
to erect wooden clad walls of ex-army hut but to build in concrete
blocks.
1973
Outline and detailed planning permission received and boundary
fence erected alongside site of Scout H.Q. Scout Summer Camp
held at a site near Llandovery in the Black Mountain South Wales.
Camp included pony-trekking, canoeing, mountain walking and a
visit to Brecon.
1972
Year long negotiations with Miss Woods and her family resulted
in a 10 year lease on the land on which the sections of the army
hut stored and making outline planning applications. Gordon Hewitt
resigns as Cub Scout Leader and is replaced by Joyce Hockridge.
John Drake resigns as Scout Leader and is replaced by Bob Faraway.
June: Cub Scouts win first Braintree District Football Six-a-Side
Competition. Scout Summer Camp is the 7th Essex International Jamboree
held at Hockley in South Essex.
1971
Big Fund-raising year to get money towards a Scout H.Q. - major events
included a Sponsored Footpath Walk, Summer Fayre and Halloween
Dance. Over two long weekends in May an ex-army hut at Bury St. Edmunds
was dismantled and transported to Coggeshall and stored on a piece of
land in what was later to become Windmill Fields by courtesy of Miss Woods.
Total cost of army hut and transportation £201.Scout Summer Camp that year
held at Buckmore Park, a Kent County Scout site near Chatham, Kent.
1970
A piece of land at back of cottages in Stoneham Street/Tilkey
Road offered by Braintree R.D.C. on a 7 year lease.Scout
Summer Camp at Bray, near Maidenhead, Berks, Venture Unit
closed and members joined the Braintree Venture Unit.
